Franchisees clean up as scrubbing the oven tops poll of most hated chores |
| Franchisees from professional oven-valeting firm Ovenu, are cleaning up despite the recession, as homeowners continue to rank scrubbing a dirty oven as their most hated household chore. |
| Research recently conducted by market analysts Mintel has revealed that almost 66 percent of homeowners in the UK rate cleaning the oven as their most loathed task. In second place, voters highlighted a strong dislike for ironing, closely followed by a hatred for cleaning the windows. Rik Hellewell, founder of Ovenu, said: "Ten years ago we conducted our own survey and the results were very similar. A lot may have changed in ten years, but not this general hatred for cleaning the oven. "It remains the most hated chore and continues to present a perfect business opportunity, as households seek a reliable and effective local service to meet their need." Since its launch in 1994 Ovenu's network of over 100 franchisees have cleaned more than one million ovens, microwaves, and barbeques. Ovenu's valeting process is popular with householders across the UK and its franchise model has been replicated across the globe including Europe, Australia, New Zealand and the United States. The Ovenu valeting process involves dismantling key components of an oven such as the door, interior panels, fan and shelves and placing them into design-registered equipment, which uses non-caustic products to clean the oven parts. Rik added: "Despite the downturn in the economy, many of our franchisees have seen an increase in bookings from householders keen to get their oven looking good as new. "While some of our competitors have been struggling, we have been focusing on providing a top quality service to every single one of our clients, and it seems to be paying dividends now with lots of referrals and return bookings." |
