Dynamic father and son duo start drain doctoring in Bristol

Former engineer Frank Cole and his son Mark have joined forces to start their own plumbing business.
The father and son duo have taken on the Bristol franchise business of Drain Doctor Plumbing offering emergency plumbing and drain repairs from a base in Bristol to commercial and domestic customers throughout the M4 corridor taking in Gloucester, Street, Wells, Cheddar and Weston-Super-Mare.

Frank, who has many years experience working as an engineer on food production sites, was recently made redundant and has come up against an age discrimination barrier while trying to get back into work. Despite the recession he felt that the time was right for him to take on his own business.

Frank said he looked at various ways of overcoming the age barrier before he came across Drain Doctor. He said: “I researched the Drain Doctor model and found that it has a proven system. It offers a recession-proof opportunity where I can be an independent operator running my own business but with all the back-up that comes with being part of a large national organisation.”

Mark added: “We aim to give businesses and householders in Bristol and the South West the ‘dazzling’ level of service in plumbing and drainage which Drain Doctor provides across the rest of the country.

“Our customers get fixed-price, no obligation quotes, a complete guarantee on all our work, and a full 24 hour per day seven day per week service with no call out charges – so people pay the same price for work at any time of day or night. What’s more, we turn up at the agreed time!”

Frank and Mark plan to begin trading by providing the plumbing service themselves but then intend to expand by recruiting three technicians before the end of the first year.

Mark’s partner Jacquelyn will help run the office part of the business. She has a graphic design background which will help in the marketing of the business.

Mark said: “When Frank said he was taking on the Bristol Drain Doctor business and asked me join him I thought that it was a perfect opportunity to help run a family business and use all the skills I have to provide ‘dazzling’ customer service.”

Launched in the United Kingdom in 1993, Drain Doctor Plumbing quickly grew to become the country's largest emergency plumbing and drain repair service. It now provides a 24 hour a day, 365 days a year service across the country with each franchise area such as Bristol run as an independent business.
