Clementine Communications Candy Cakes, the London-based boutique cafe retreat specialising in bespoke and affordable cakes is to open its first international franchise in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in the second half of 2009.
The new franchise will open in one of the busiest shopping centers in Jeddah and will follow Candy Cakes' successful business model, affordable treats: cakes, coffees and shakes, with production on-site.

Michael Thomas, Candy Cakes founder, has teamed up with dynamic Saudi restaurant group Lost City Cafe & Restaurant to open the first Candy Cakes venue outside the UK.

Following his success in opening the first international franchise for Pizza Express in Cyprus a decade ago, entrepreneur Mr. Thomas believes this will be the first in a chain of Candy Cakes franchises across the world.

'We are really happy about it as it means that Candy Cakes is not only taking the lead in the UK market, but demonstrates that we can also attract investment overseas, adding brand value, 'Mr. Thomas says. 'The name Candy Cakes appeals to everyone internationally - the brand is recognised everywhere now.'

Candy Cakes is defying the recession with a business that continues to grow month after month, with particular expansion in its online sector.

With four London shops in key locations, and a turnover of GBP1.3 million last year, Mr Thomas has now successfully generated international interest and is developing his innovative business model outside the UK with a forecast turnover of GBP2.5 million in 2009.

"We are getting a lot of enquiries for international franchises but we are realistic as to what we can do and take on" he says. "We are selling the business model, along with our brand values but we want the right location, the right partner and a passionate staff!. One day we will be a truly international brand."
