Jims Mowing Franchise

From corporate high-flyer to garden keeper:
Paul Carr saw an investment opportunity in Jim's Mowing too good to refuse

When accountant of more than 25 years, Paul Carr stumbled upon an opportunity to trade in his high-flying financial career for a shiny green, 15 horse powered, ride-on lawn mower and the chance to invest in one of the UK's most exciting and potentially high-earning franchises, he couldn't get his pen out fast enough.

He's now the Co-director and the Regional Franchisor of Norfolk for one of Australia's most successful franchises, Jim's Mowing, which is also the largest gardening services franchise in the world and continuously expanding.

Having held senior financial roles with companies such as Warranty Holdings, Warner Bros., Burberry, Hermes and Willis, it was no small decision to throw in his well-established, upper-bracket-earning career and relocate his family from London to Norfolk. "My wife took a fair bit of convincing. Not for the fact it was a risky business proposition but she was concerned with how I'd cope with the physical labour side of things. You're no spring chicken anymore, she told me.

"My accountancy friends thought I was quite mad at the time - many of them still do - but I saw it as a lifestyle choice as much as an investment decision. I wanted to spend more time with my family and frankly I was just a bit bored doing the same type of work."

Prior to becoming a "Jim", Paul's day comprised of joining the throngs on the tube, sitting at a desk or in meetings for at least eight hours and commuting home again - just to get up and do it all again in the morning.

"Jim's offered such a strong investment prospectus, that my decision to purchase a franchise was made quite quickly. I was only the second franchisee to sign in the UK and within five months I became a Regional Franchisor.

"With my business background, I've now taken on the role of Co-director for Jim's Mowing nationally, together with my partner Richard Harrison, who despite his constant chides over the results of the Ashes (he's Australian), we actually work very well together."

"One of the best parts about starting your own Jim's franchise is the amount of support you get all the way through in running your business - if you need it. One of the company's USPs is its Work Availability Guarantee to franchisees so running out of work is not even a consideration and the margin for growth is as big as you want it to be."

A full comprehensive training program is provided and new franchisees from the UK are actually flown to Australia to meet Jim himself and complete the training.

Founded in 1982 in Melbourne, Australia, Jim's Mowing quite literally took Australia by storm through its simple yet foolproof business model of delivering a high-quality gardening maintenance service with a limitless demand for work. It's now a household name in Australia, and has expanded to include a host of other domestic services which the company hopes to bring to the UK.

Based on the success of the company in Australia, Paul threw his weight behind Jim's Mowing and hasn't looked back.

Unlike other franchise offers, Jim's Mowing offers a very feasible option for first-time franchise purchasers to join a formidable business product with very minimal risk and with a desire to work hard, a totally conceivable notion of earning big money.

The majority of existing Jim's Mowing franchisees are former professionals or office workers, who like Paul recognised the opportunity to change their career and lifestyle for the better while keeping their high-earning salary.

With 2,500 franchisees operating in Australia, New Zealand and Canada, and only 15 currently on the books in the UK the opportunities to invest are substantial.
