Golfplan Insurance Stands the Test of Time In 1984 a Bristol entrepreneur created a golf product that has stood the test of time and over the past 20 years has become Europe's largest specialist golf insurance company. Today, Golfplan International Insurance protects over £40 million worth of golf equipment and provide peace of mind for thousands of UK golfers. According to Golfplan the most common claim is theft of golf equipment, particularly from vehicles and golf club car parks. However, the largest claim settled to date is for a Public Liability claim in 2001. A golfer was awarded £87,000 (including costs) after she had been hit on the head by an errant tee shot played by a Golfplan client. Golfplan Managing Director, Ron Channon, started Golfplan after he hit his daughter on the head with a golf ball and then discovered that he would have had to fund his own litigation in the event of a PL claim. Neither his golf club, nor his household insurance policy offered any protection. "Generally, this situation has remained unchanged over the past 20 years. Golfplan has filled this void by offering annual worldwide golf and travel insurance policies and we intend to carry on protecting golfers far into the future" he commented. The policies, which are underwritten by Axa and are PGA endorsed, are available to all golfers regardless of equipment value, age, handicap or club membership status. To celebrate their 20th year in the golf industry, Golfplan is giving away FREE 2-Fore!-1 golf vouchers to all policyholders. Recently, the company successfully broadened product awareness and increased sales by introducing a network of franchisees that currently look after 83% of the UK's golf retail outlets. This allows Golfplan to have a unique equipment claim settlement procedure where claims are settled via PGA professionals at over 1900 UK golf clubs, courses and driving ranges. During 2003, in recognition of this commitment to UK professionals, the PGA invited Golfplan to join the PGA Trade Partners Scheme. No other golf insurance policy has this association. There are only 7 territories now available: South Coast (West), South Wales, Northern Ireland, The Fens, Home Counties, South East and Republic of Ireland. |
