Neal Rejects Australia Sun For Berkshire Sewers Neal Hurst has turned his back on the sunshine of Australia to return to a 'life of grime' providing 24-hour plumbing and drainage repairs in the Slough, Maidenhead and Bracknell areas. Neal, who emigrated to Perth, Western Australia, with his wife, Felicity, and young son, Archie, a year ago, is launching his own Drain Doctor Plumbing business covering virtually the same area where he previously worked as assistant manager for a rival drain repair service for over four years. Now it could be trench warfare in Berkshire as he aims to build a team of skilled technicians capable of providing a full range of plumbing and drain repairs along with unprecedented standards of customer service. Neal and Felicity sold their house in Reading a year ago with the idea of starting a new business in Australia but decided life in Perth was not for them and returned to the UK. Now they are busy building a new life back home in Berkshire. "It's been an interesting experience," said Neal, who worked as a lorry driver in Australia. "Returning to the UK was the right decision for us. Now I'm making a new start as the boss of my own business." Neal's new business will be part of the national Drain Doctor Plumbing network, which was launched in the UK in 1994 and quickly became the country 's largest emergency plumbing and drain repair service. It now has more than 100 franchise areas covering the UK and Ireland. Drain Doctor Plumbing is the first national organisation in its sector to register under the government's Quality Mark Approved scheme, which aims to protect householders from unscrupulous tradesmen. It was also a finalist in last year's British Franchise Association's Franchise of the Year competition.
