RE/MAX Sweeps 2004 Entrepreneur Franchise 500 Real Estate Rankings Entrepreneur magazine has completed its 25th Annual Franchise 500® survey and global real estate franchisor, RE/MAX International was ranked No.19 among all franchises and the top real estate franchise. It was the fifth year RE/MAX appeared in the top 25, four of those years as No. 1 in its category. In addition, the Entrepreneur study named RE/MAX "Best of the Best" for real estate services; the "Fastest Growing" real estate franchise at No. 11; the highest ranking real estate franchise (No.8) in "Low-Cost Franchises" and in "America's Top Global Franchises" at No. 17. At the top of the Franchise 500 again this year was Subway with Curves, women's fitness centers in second place. "The honor of being in the Entrepreneur Franchise 500 never gets old," commented Margaret Kelly, RE/MAX president. "In fact, every year we look forward to the report with hopes that the efforts of our region owners, franchisees and their associates are recognized. The results this year are phenomenal, and we feel privileged to be listed alongside the brightest and most professional franchisors in the world." The 1980 Franchise 500® was the first ranking of franchises in the industry and is considered the best and most comprehensive rating of franchises in the world. Polishing and perfecting ranking procedures, Entrepreneur developed a formula that accurately identifies today's top franchise opportunities. Only franchise companies that submit full Uniform Franchise Offering Circulars or Alberta, Canada, disclosure documents are eligible to receive a listing in the magazine. Only those companies that have a U.S. or Alberta, Canada, disclosure document and whose information Entrepreneur verified from the disclosure documents are eligible to be ranked. Numerous
factors are considered in the rankings, some of which are weighed
more heavily than others. The most important ones include financial
strength and stability, growth rate and size of the system. Also considered
are the number of years in business and length of time franchising,
start-up costs, litigation, percentage of terminations and whether
the company provides financing. An independent CPA firm audits financial
data and every company with verifiable data receives a cumulative
score. These factors are objective, quantifiable measures of a franchise
operation and all companies, regardless of size, are judged by the
same criteria. The franchises with the highest "cumes" become
the Franchise 500®.
