Green Square Kelso gets the ‘Green Team’ seal of approval
The ‘Green Team’ pupils of eco-school*, Yetholm Primary in Kelso joined local leaders including MSP John Lamont and Provost Cllr John Bassett, in welcoming Green Square™, a dedicated renewable energy centre, to Scotland on Friday 27th March.
The new Green Square store at 3 The Square in Kelso, has now officially opened its doors, offering homeowners in and around the Scottish borders a one-stop-shop for renewable energy supplies, including solar panels, pellet biomass stoves, solar thermal, biomass boilers, heat pumps and Xcel heatbank™ technology.
To mark the launch, children aged 7 - 16 were invited to get creative and design a futuristic eco-friendly house. The winner, Susanna Robson, aged 11 and the ‘Green Team’; Florrie Abrams, Alex Redpath, Connor Rooney, Jack Anderson and Penny Inglis, all pupils from Yetholm Primary School, presented a talk about the importance of the environment and educated the ‘adults’ that being green is as simple as child’s play.
The morning of celebrations started with a welcome from Green Square Director Richard Hiblen followed by a speech from the new centre manager, Oliver Thyne before he presented Susanna with her prize of a brand new iPad and a £250 cheque for her school to spend on environmental projects.
Oliver commented: “We are very excited to be here in Kelso; we have had an excellent response from people locally so far who seem keen to convert to green energy supplies. The launch exceeded our expectations and the presentation from the Yetholm school pupils was very entertaining and inspiring and demonstrated the important views of our future generation.”
Following the speeches, the guests were invited to get ‘hands on’ and learn more about renewable energy through specifically developed videos and a plethora of information around the store.
Richard Hiblen, Director of Green Square, commented: “I’ve worked in the industry for many years and found that a lot of homeowners want to be more environmentally friendly however they generally don’t know where to begin. The opening of Green Square, Kelso means that consumers on the Scottish borders now have all the information they need under one roof to make that step towards helping lower carbon emissions and benefiting both their pocket and the planet.”
